I'm reading a Castle fanfic, and at the bottom the little author's note runs

My idea came from the first episode of this great old sitcom called Full House. For anyone who's seen it....

The writer is 18. Apparently, at 18, you refer to Full House as "a great old sitcom" and disclaimer it "for anyone who's seen it".

THIS IS NOT RIGHT. I watched that show as a kid. THIS IS WRONG. WRONG. WRONG.

lol ur old

...and now I can't get the show's theme song out of my head.

EDIT: though [personal profile] siderea's comment does remind me there could be a different take on it - it could be the writer's assumption of obscurity-by-age given a) we've got about 20 years' worth of media in the past 5 or so and b) who goes around talking about Full House nowadays. :o

This reminds me of those kids who get pissed at that "kids born in 1982" list that says they typically won't know much about the Gulf War: "Duh! Of course I do! We learned about it in History Class!" (I admit that the list is a bit presumptuous and overgeneralizing, but the reaction I mentioned is a great example of how time passes so quickly.)

I remember the Civil War Centennial, and also the Cuban Missile Crisis during which we had to practice hiding under our desks from the Atom Bomb. The sitcoms I think of as 'old' are I Love Lucy and The Honeymooners, both of which I loathed.

Heh, I remember the very first seasons of Gilligan's Island, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, The Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, It's About Time and My Mother The Car. I wouldn't call any of them 'great', but they were amusing enough at the time.

WTF? I'm the same age as DJ Tanner! I lived vicariously through her teenage travails! I was so upset when she and Steve broke up!

Which one did you like, then?

(If you say Michelle, it means an automatic de-friending.)

I don't know what disturbs me more, the fact that Full house is a "great old sitcom" or that someone got an idea for fanfic from an episode of it.

For the record, I was already a TEENAGER when this show came on. *gets out walker now*
