During dinner (tacos!), I got bored, so I started singing.
Me: I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves
Me and Ana: Everybody's nerves, everybody's nerves! I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves and this is how it goes! Evangeline: You guys are annoying me!
Me: I guess we're getting on your nerves then, right? *grin*
Evangeline: No, you're not getting on my nerves.
Me: Alrighty then! *deep breath* Gets on everybody's nerves!
Me and Ana: Everybody's nerves, everybody's nerves!
Evangeline: Stop, it's annoying!
Me: Then it's getting on your nerves.
Evangeline: No it isn't. It's just annoying. It's not getting on my nerves.
Me: No, no - when something is "getting on your nerves", that means it's annoying you.
Evangeline: NO! It's annoying me, and it's not getting on my nerves! And when something's not annoying me, it's not getting on my nerves either! Nothing is getting on my nerves! FOR REAL!
Me: But-
Evangeline: FOR REAL!
Overheard earlier today, while the cookies were baking and the girls were playing with their friend Sonia from down the block: "Ana, that's what I saided!" I'm not sure how Evangeline thinks of the verb "to say", but the past tense, for her, is clearly "saided". Or "sedded", even.
