But now that I have almost done so...

What about those movies? Is it compulsary for people to watch the B5 movies? Am I dreadfully missing out if I don't?

I've never seen them, and also never watched past Season 4. That said, I am bookmarking and tracking this link to see what others have to say. I'm glad you asked; I also needed to know.

I've seen many of them... some are really worth seeing. Some are kinda enh, doesn't matter. The problem is, I'm not sure I remember which are which. I think In The Beginning was one of the ones you need to see. Then there's stuff like Thirdspace which I think were pretty skipable.

Whichever one has Londo telling the story of both how it began and what happened afterward is kind of a must-see.

I would put In the Beginning as a must see, the others not so much.

In the Beginning is a must-see, you can skip the others. Strangely enough, I never got around to watching River of Souls, even though I have a copy somewhere.

What they said. "In the Beginning" is definitely a must-see; the others you can skip if you want since (unlike ITB) they're not related to the overall five-year storyline. Also, there are characters in ITB who are referenced in the novels -- I know you're not doing any Bab 5 novels yet, but if you ever do, it's nice to know who Senna is.

I don't know how sentimental you are, but I suggest being ready to cry a lot when you watch the final episode. I'm not an overly sentimental person myself, but I always weep a lot when I watch that ep, and I've heard tell of Bab 5 fans who, after having seen it once, can't ever watch it again. It's intensely emotional and very well-done.

Ditto what everyone's said about In the Beginning. It's important both thematically and as character arcs go, and it gives yet another angle on Dukhat's death scene, which is pretty much the most significant and endlessly-interpretable event in B5 continuity.

I'll put in a good word for River of Souls because I doubt anyone else will. It helps if you like Martin Sheen, but RoS made me care about Lockley for whole minutes at a time. It also puts more detail into the concept of the soul hunters, whom I always thought were interesting in light of what the series generally has to say about souls and mortality. On the other hand, the ending has enough saccharine to double the cancer rate of the US for a year, and the plot has little to nothing to do with the rest of the series. Thirdspace is skippable and I've been told that I should be glad that I haven't seen Legend of the Rangers.

This is very true.

Sad, immensely sad, since the Rangers were so very cool, but true.
