I got to use the phrase "I eschew prescriptivist linguistics as the tool of the oppressor". I think I'll temporarily adopt that as my new moral stand, even! *goes to put that in her profile*

Anyway, that reminds me, I'm adding new words to my vocabulary, and hopefully helping in my own small way to change the English language. I suppose it's too late to re-add thou, thee, thy, thine to the language...? Yeah, yeah, better to just say youse and y'all for the plural than thou for the singular, even as it grates on my nerves.

So... what to add, what to add... Swink has long been a favorite word, meaning to labor or to toil, but I can't see myself using it seriously... "Man, I've really been swinking on this homework!" See what I mean?

I've got it! From the Archaic English Project, dwarmy! It refers to unwholesome (generally humid) weather or feeling unwell. I love that site. I have to visit there more often.

A good way to spread language, I've discovered, is to wear it on your chest. My badminton kit has Egregious Emma as my name and everyone always asks what it says/means. How many of them remember, I don't know, but if they see you often enough... ;0)

Of course they are. The point isn't just to encourage older forms but to actively discourage words from other roots, especially Romance/Latin roots. So they're saying "these are English words, current or not, with Anglo-Saxon roots".
