This one on CDs possibly harming your computer (I have no ability to follow the discussion in the links, apparently, more than "RIAA = bad"), so if somebody could confirm this for everyone, that'd be nice.

I agree too, but they should get the money through shows and merchandise, and things like that.

And, oh dear god, MAYBE GET ANOTHER JOB??

They whine so much about the friggen money when there is people in Africa thtat live a penny a month.

I do agree though, that that stupid CD thing is compelte moronicness. (YESNEWMADEUPWORD~!)

I do hope that at least a FEW good record underground CD companies do NOT do that.

I don't think it's whining about money if you're honestly not making any. Clearly, that doesn't apply to those who are - but it's not fair to say "others are suffering more, so you can't complain". Even if the person in question *isn't* suffering.

Uhh.. Maybe being a musician IS their job. Why should they have to get another one? Being a professional musician is a fulltime job, just like any other professional job.

And what's wrong with making money off of CDs? I'm afraid I don't see the distinction between their earning income from shows vs CDs.

And conuly, that's actually a fairly outdated and incorrect blog article. Sony/BMG (same thing, not seperate entities as the article implies - Sony BMG is the music arm of the Sony parent) has stopped issuing those CDs and the old ones can be exchanged for free - see http://cp.sonybmg.com/xcp/english/home.html (http://cp.sonybmg.com/xcp/english/home.html) for info on that. I don't know about EMI. Why does he say to stay away from "The Big 5" when he doesn't even know about Warner and Universal?

He is right in that the copy protection schemes in these particular CDs were potentially destructive to the computers, and that they're hard to remove.

But basically, this is all old news and not an issue anymore.

Thanks - that's what I wanted to know! And you're right - you shouldn't have to hold down two jobs to support yourself.
