I'm sorry, but being a lefty does NOT entitle you to special benefits. Yeah, other minorities get scholarships. You know why? Other minorities need scholarships. Black people have years of oppression and poverty to overcome, as well as continuing racism, both overt and subtle. Asians are often immigrants, and immigrants have their own issues to deal with (aside from the normal (ick) prejudice). Lefties? Yeah, there need to be more lefty desks in schools (or more of the large kind that have room for everyone) but other than that... your family can afford to send you to school, and if they can't, it isn't based on the fact that you're a lefty.

"But, but, but... my handwriting is sooooo baaaaad!!!! *sobsobsob*"

Get over yourself. My handwriting sucks. Chances are, no matter how bad your handwriting is, it looks like an adult's handwriting, at the very least, which is more than I can say for my own. Learn to type and shut up.

"But, but... the rings on my binder hurt my hand!!!"

Sounds like a good argument... but why don't righties complain about writing on the back of the paper? It's your notebook, if it's such a problem, turn the page over and write on the back instead! Or take the pages out. Or get a spiral notebook that opens from the top instead of the side. Or, or, or any number of options.

"But there are no lefty desks!"

Good complaint. Very good. Still doesn't merit you a scholarship, all it merits you is a trip down to student services or the equivilant to demand more lefty desks per classroom.

Hey, my handwriting is atrocious, and I'm right handed. I don't think being left-handed automatically makes one's handwriting bad, and besides I've never felt that my bad handwriting has put me at a disadvantage. Except for maybe times I haven't been able to read it myself. Also, many languages are written right-to-left. I somehow doubt that right-handed people who write in, say, Hebrew or Arabic are at a severe disadvantage there.

And there are plenty of lefty desks. At least where I've been. I actually prefer the lefty desks because I don't take notes, so on a lefty desk I can rest my left (lazy) arm, leaving my right arm and hand free. And I almost always arrive late for class; by the time I get there, it's usually only lefty desks that are still available, anyway.

Silly. :)
