I didn't explain it well. It sounds to me, always, like the dad is asking his son to kill Rose. "If you would just kill her already!". And then if I move away from that, it definitely still sounds like he expects him to kill her, that's the future more vivid. And then, when I move away from *that*, I get the feeling that he's specifically saying "If you kill her, you'll go free". The specificity makes it sound as though he doesn't think the kid'll go free for shoplifting, say. I missed the first sentence in my post, though.
