Oh, happy winter solstice.

It is Midwinter. I don't care what your newfangled calendars say, winter is now officially half-over. Isn't that cheerfuller than saying it's only just begun?

So, yesterday, in the cold, I'm watching TV, and there's an ad by the TWU about the strike. How they can pay ads, I don't know - those fines they had to have known they'd get are going to add up *real* fast. Anyway, it was a group of people explaining their jobs and that "I'm TWU".

And they all were woman. Five, six people, and all female.

This struck me as odd, and my mother goes "Well, if they all were men, you wouldn't've noticed". Perhaps not. Perhaps it would've slid past me. And perhaps that would've been sexist and wrong. But at least I wouldn't be sitting there going "This is *not* a representative sample".

Seriously. All day I've been thinking about this. It makes very little sense to me. Logically, there's no *reason* to pick men if they were the best people to stand there and do this ad, but... it's absurdly disproportionate! Why? WHY???

In other Really Boring News (sorry), I can finally pop my ears again. Yay.

I've always thought calendars were a little odd in when the different seasons began... Nothing like the weather says. At the same time... There isn't enough snow or cold for it to be the middle of winter!! I think I have to move to Alaska if I want my seasons back, but then again, I might not get a proper summer there. Lake Wobegon Minneapolis is not. :-/
So... TWU... What does that stand for? Obviously something something union, but what's TW?
And I've always thought those poor representative samples were weird... But then again, I get kinda annoyed when TV shows like Power Rangers just try too hard to be P.C. But that's just me. ^^;

Oh, and when you say you can pop your ears, you mean any time, or when they're already unbalanced? (When you're elevated or... Underground, I guess.)

Usually, I can anytime, unless I'm having a sinus problem. I usually *don't* anytime, though - only when I'm suffering from pressure changes.
