Terms I really wish people would get right...

1. Fake lj-cut

A fake lj-cut is a link to another entry or site that looks like an lj-cut. It is bolded. It is surrounded by parentheses. The parentheses aren't part of the link proper. If it doesn't at least have the parentheses around it, it's just a damn link, so stop being pretentious about it!

2. Maintainer/moderator

At the risk of abusing the FAQ, go read the FAQ. Got it? Good. Stop confusing them. Once I figured out this nifty piece of information, it's been really annoying me to see people get them wrong.

3. Effect/affect.

Effect is a verb. Effect is a noun. Affect is a verb. Affect is a noun. If you can't tell the difference between the four different uses of these similar words, please, choose a different word.

I'm tired. I'm going to bed. I just needed to get a tiny vent out so people don't think I've turned nice or something in my old age :)

Seriously, though, I feel less irritated than I ever do. You know me, I am always upset over *something*, but these past few days... It's really creepy. But somehow, not creepy enough to actually piss me off. Which is even creepier.

Thank you! I hate it when people are like "this cut is so fake", and all I can say is "yes. it is.". ARGH!

(This is almost as annoying as doing an actual fake cut - why not just link it without pretending, or pretending to pretend, in the first place?)

What's really fun is when you're a maintainer AND a moderator. Because then, nobody leaves you alone. (At least if you're a lowly mod, you can pass the buck to the maintainer if you want. Oops.) Oh, the joy.

Fake LJ cuts are possibly my biggest pet peeve in LJ land.

...In fact they may be my only peeve, so they're not so much of a pet as they are the moose that keeps eating the flowers in my window box.

I hate them so. And whenever you call someone out on it, they just go "LOL, yeah, it's fake." "Why go to all the effort of coding it to look like a LJ cut?" "LOL, it looks good."

And why do people always say LOL before they say incredibly vapid things? It's like a warning sign.
