Eating is disgusting. I don't want to have to see people eating in public. It's all those orifices and noise and it all ends up in the toilet anyway. You should eat in the toilet, save yourself a trip - and this way, the rest of us wouldn't have to be forced to watch your disgusting little habit. Oh, I know it's a natural function, but none of us wants to see it in public. It's obscene! Your mouth is used in sex. That's why civilized people cover their mouths with veils and whatnot. Doesn't your partner care that your mouth is now being used for things other than kissing them? That's sick and perverted, you know. Stop it! Stop eating in front of me! That's horrible! I'm going to complain to somebody. They'll make you stop.

Actually, that is just about how I feel, especially if the person is chewing with their mouth open so I have to see and hear the glop squishing around. Yick.

(I also don't care for _public_ breastfeeding, in part because it gives one kind of person a right to ignore clothing laws that the rest of us don't get to follow, and in part because it serves as a method of keeping screaming-age babies far away from me in public, since the mother has to go somewhere else to feed it. Also because slurpy noises from *any* source bugs me.)

Believe it or not, I actually do sometimes feel this way about people eating in public. However, as a polite, civilized individual, I just don't tell them that. I figure it's not my business.

Well, when nursing, the baby isn't screaming. And here in NYC, we can all go topless! So that part doesn't follow. (I'm all for supporting people's rights to go sans shirts and bras and whatnot, even without a baby or penis.)

But the slurpy noises, I hear that. Unfortunately. Guess you shouldn't ever hear me drink a cup of water, though.... I'm told it's quite scary.

I don't mind if women feed a baby in public, I just look the other way, much as I do with thongs, those guys who wear their pants with the waistband around the knees, and girls in thongs and their bellies hanging out who would be better served with more clothes and less ...well eating, public or otherwise. (Mind you, I'm no stick, but I'm also not letting it hang out for the world to see. My opinion, rolls only look good on a royce)

Seeing someone eat in public can also be unpleasant because it makes one hungry (but that may be stretching the analogy to the point where it seems slightly inappropriate).

I actually just got in this argument a few days ago and wanted your take on the situation, but the post was FO.

Basically, I had to argue that all the "solutions" to the breastfeeding in public "problem" are shite. Including the blanket-covering.

I don't have a problem with breastfeeding in public. I've never experienced what some people have, but I can sympathize. Like with everything, there is that ooone person who ruins it for everyone.

I have a problem with that person. Not with breastfeeding (is best, ect.), but with the loud, obnoxious person.

I do find eating disgusting. But I try not to think about it, or I start having trouble keeping myself fed sufficiently for my health.

But breastfeeding doesn't bug me. Doesn't affect me at all really. Although I do support the right to wear whatever people wish, be it ugly, tacky, or nothing at all. Nudity shouldn't be a big deal, and it only is because we say it is. If we accepted it, it'd just be bodies. As such, toplessness doesn't bother me at all.

Seriously, though, the argument that it's "messy", "loud", or "a bodily function" often seems to be the result of people deceiving themselves. This isn't about food; it's about sex and our culture's lack of concern for context.

Actually, eating-noises (especially readily-audible ones) annoy me greatly. My dad is a noisy eater and breathes very noisily when he chews...argh!

I don't have problems with breastfeeding in public...though occasional "slurpy" noises do squidge me out whether it's a kid or an adult eating noisily.
