Just saw Star Wars....
May. 21st, 2005 01:50 amGot my period as well. Near the end of the movie, I realized I'd leaked all over the front of my (fortunately dark) jeans. I decided to stay through to the end, then run to the bathroom and blot it all up until it wasn't visible at all. Fortunately, this plan worked. Yay me.
1. The writing? No worse than I expected. I mean, c'mon, this is Star Wars. Has it ever had good dialog?
2. No Jar-Jar. Well, hardly any Jar-Jar, and that might've been a random person of his race instead of Jar-Jar proper. It didn't speak.
3. Obi-Wan got to ride this really cool peacock lizard thing. I want one.
4. OMG! ANI TURNED EVIL???? NOOOOOOO!
5. OMG! PALPALTINE WAS EVIL???? NOOOOOOOO!
6. OMG! SHE HAD TWINS? NOOOOOOOO!
7. So, how do the Sith choose their names anyway? That seemed kinda random.
8. Man, Obi-Wan is cruel. Your ex-best friend is lying on the ground, burning up, missing his limbs, and instead of helping him, or something, you stand around bitching about how much he has hurt you?
9. So, basically, Anakin turned evil because of a few bad dreams? Wha?
10. How does he keep his suit so shiny? Asa suggested that a lot of people are "working at the darth wash", which deserves a mild chuckle for being a better pun than "sith happens".
11. I don't think this movie is a political allegory. Or rather, I think that people will think that any movie with a clearly defined bad guy is talking about Bush. I mean, duh.
12. Why do people think Vader is the Bush figure anyway? He's not fully evil, he eventually gets redeemed. Is it because Palpaltine is clever?
13. 'dul doesn't think that Palpaltine is evil. He also thinks I'm evil for saying I'd kill my mother if she turned out to be Darth Mom in disguise. 'dul has issues.
14. Irshad has seven lightsabers. This is rather frightening for some reason.
15. Irshad apparently didn't take batleth lessons after all. This is a relief.
16. We must confiscate all lightsabers from people like Irshad and 'dul before the movie, because nobody wants to hang around while they have a three person lightsaber fight on the balcony. I still don't know why they didn't just have it at street level like normal people.
17. Why does Lucas hate hands? I mean, is this some sort of perversion of his, he has to cut off people's hands?
18. Why is it that when Anakin starts wearing all black, it's a sign he's getting EVIL, but when Luke does the same thing, it just means he's getting powerful (but not evil)?
Most of that isn't actually spoilery.

Date: 2005-05-20 11:27 pm (UTC)Not any bad guy. Just fascists. That said, this movie's political allegory has to be more generalized, as the movie was written pre-Bush.
"Why do people think Vader is the Bush figure anyway?"
I don't see how anyone could think that, either. Bush has no redeeming qualities, unlike Vader. :-P
"Man, Obi-Wan is cruel. Your ex-best friend is lying on the ground, burning up, missing his limbs, and instead of helping him, or something, you stand around bitching about how much he has hurt you?"
I like the irony in that. If he'd been merciful, he'd have killed the guy, and there would have been no Darth Vader to speak of.

And the cleaver implicaiton that must have had anakin wondering in the back of his angst filled head "if the sith can stimulate the midichlorians to create life, does that meen a sith is my daddy?" And the wonderful lack of trust the jedi council show in him. And the fact that hez in teh wub(/scarcasim) but he jedi forbid it, Etc Etc Etc.
