If a job requires you to be able to walk (for example, being a firefighter), you can't go to the ADA about it if you're in a wheelchair. And if a job requires heavy lifting (say, sanitation), you need to be able to lift the required amount to get and keep the job. If you are morally opposed to killing people, you do not enlist in the army - nor do you get to enlist and then claim you were always opposed to killing people. In fact, the army frowns on people even changing their minds about the whole killing people thing while they're still on active duty.

So, if you can't dispense some sort of medication because of your religious beliefs, what's so hard about the concept "don't take the fucking job"? Vegetarians don't work as butchers for exactly this reason.

I am so in agreement with you, there.

It would be like me joining the military.

Excuse the narcissism, but I like to think my views on this are summed up here:

We've been arguing about the pharmacist/birth control thing on <lj comm="customers_suck". Someone thought a customer was being sucky because she politely requested that she get her prescription filled while she was at the pharmacy instead of having to come back in three days when a different pharmacist was there.

This case amazed me: Shelf Stacker (http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/viewarticle2.aspx?sectionid=845&ArticleID=751952)

I think I'd have gone along to the store to check whether I could reach the top shelves BEFORE I applied for the job.

I bet some do it because "they're helping people" and then feel an obligation to "make things morally better" there.

I don't understand why so many people are so terribly narrow-minded about it, thinking "OMG anyone using it is KILLING BABIES!!" A lot of people use birth control pills for NON-sexual reasons, and even if they WERE...I'm tempted to ask them if they eat meat and why they don't feel bad for killing an animal that's just for one meal (at most a few if they have an animal butchered specifically for them) that they could technically live without doing.

Precisely- I'm on them to keep my periods regular and to remedy the heinous cramps I normally have. Considering that I'm basically asexual, the chance of me actually needing them for the "normal" purpose is low to nil.
