Apparently, mammals shouldn't drink the milk of another species. It's just not good for them. Who woulda thunk?

I'm rather disturbed by the fact that the poor cubs will be stuffed and displayed. Poor babies.

I said that all along, that human breastmilk wouldn't be right -- human breastmilk is made for the long infancy of humans, and their particular growth rate, both physically and intellectually. A cow has milk that suits a not as clever animal (sorry I just think cows aren't that smart) that has to get really big, really fast, and so on.

Now, they make milks you can use for animals, and they adjust ones if it is a different species. I think the walruses at the NY Aquarium had some sort of formula with pulverized clam and/or fish in it. (I was a docent there AGES ago.)

Same with human formula, they start with a cow or soy milk BASE and then adjust with what a human infant needs to develop.

Where someone thought this was a good idea, I don't know. If maybe she pumped human milk and they added what was needed, that would have made sense. But to me, this didn't.

When I was a baby I was half-starved due to some silly nurses who decided to keep giving me cows milk despite my explosively allergic reactions to it. Cows' milk = bad. Goat milk, however, seems fine :p.

Now, will people realize through this how bizarre it is for them to drink cow's milk?

Probably not.

Just for the record: I drink it. But I'm upset about it!

Yeah, I learned that... too late to save a litter of kittens, but given that the option at the time was to give them cow's milk or nothing at all, I don't regret having fed them the cow's milk. They were scared and hungry. At least they lived their incredibly short (a day or two) lives with a little bit of comfort (they calmed down a lot when I pet them or let them nuzzle against my hand), and with a bit of food, and in more warmth. They were dead by morning, so I couldn't seek out any expert advice or care. But if I killed them, it was still probably better for them than leaving them totally alone outside with no one.

Their mother abandoned them and absolutely refused (possibly was unable) to feed them. So, they had no chance. For all I know, they may even have been born defective in some way and that killed them. But regardless, it's sad when babies die, but it's still better to live what life you have with some love.
