I watched a few episodes of Enterprise. I was annoyed at the first episode... we've had Vulcans since the beginning of Star Trek. The Vulcans in Enterprise were not Vulcans. They didn't act Vulcan, they had a different culture... they didn't fit. How hard is it to get Vulcans right when they've been doing so for decades?

I gave it a few episodes, it didn't get better.

I feel bad for it - it had decent actors and set, but the writing was horribly bad and stupid. I don't even consider it a Star Trek series since it violates the Star Trek universe. It had a good idea, and had they done it decently, it probably would have sold. Watching the creation of the neutral zone, the early interactions with Klingons and the start of war... that could have been really cool. But they didn't do that. They just made really bad Vulcans and tried to sell a show focusing on lots of visible flesh. That isn't what made the Star Trek fan base so large.

Yes, I grew up on it. But a lot of the Star Trek fan base comes from Star Trek: The Next Generation, because it was even better.

Also, old trek had a large proportion of episodes about interesting issues. It was sex, but it was also social commentary on currently relevant issues. On a side note, Old Trek had the first televised interracial kiss (although they did it in a disappointing manner).

I'm not saying the sex was a problem, but the lack of much else combined with destroying the universe... and they wonder why fans of Star Trek didn't like it?
