I'd weep for them, but then they might start eating lox and leaving less for me!

Edit: Incidentally, fun fact, the lox you're likely to buy in the supermarket (smoked salmon) isn't, technically speaking, lox. Lox is salmon cured in a salt brine. Smoked salmon is just, well, smoked salmon. It's still yummy, though.

but it's a classic! bagel with cream cheese and lox, capers yes; red onions if you can get 'em (otherwise make sure it's on an onion/everything bagel), washed down with a tall glass of orange juice.

i didn't even use to like fish and i still liked my bagels with lox! and lox doesn't smell fishy, at least not if you're refrigerating it properly.

ooh! i forgot the tomatoes. which are necessary, but only if they're fresh and bright. out of season tomatoes just look anemic and depressing.

More lox from you. But it's not really personal to the lox. I don't eat any animals. I do tend to dislike fish more than most meats, because often if someone is eating fish, I can smell it and it makes my food less enjoyable. But lox isn't the smelliest of fish. And there are other meats that do this too. I don't like eating my lovely vegetarian dishes while smelling meat/fish.

Uh yes.... my fingers have a mind of their own... which is good, as the rest of me doesn't. But sometimes, it's just not enough.

I had an embarassing typo recently... I forget what Iw as writing, but it was something like, I needed to write the word "gun" and I had to erase the 'k' at the end.

Don't forget to differentiate between Northwest-style smoked salmon (hot-smoked, dry texture, fully cooked) and Scottish-style smoked salmon (the cold-smoked wet stuff you're describing above).

Northwest-style smoked salmon is almost impossible to slice. It crumbles.

Hmm, it must be a kashrut (kosherness) issue then. *scratches head* if something is not eaten locally, it's because we just can't get the ingredients. Hungarian Jewish life in 2005, yay.

Or maybe it came from Poland and/or Ukraine and/or Russia to the US, circled around Hungary with us being left out...?
