If you haven't already -I recommend you read my writings. That is, the ones I actually like. sum is my comic strip and ... well my web site is somewhat down but my memory category oh wait... memories are down too. Darn, that makes my fairly tales hard to read. Anyhow, this recommendation contains an obviously biased opinion, but still lots of people enjoy Sum.

As for an argument... how about this one:
Conditional love is better than unconditional love between two equals (i.e. romantic partners, not a parent-child relationship) because unconditional love says: I love you no matter what. No matter what you do or how you change. And this basically means I love you no matter who you become, not because you're a good person I value, but because I have love for you.
Whereas conditional love says: I have gotten to know you and I love you. I love you for who you are, because I value you. You may someday change into something I do not love, because I do not love all people and the future you may not be the same person effectively as the present you, but the you I know, I love.

My hypothetical cat will be His Grace His Excellency Commander Sir Samuel Vimes, Duke of Ankh.

I can introduce you to a forum I really, really like. It's not Harry Potter based, it's an everything forum, without any subdivisions at all, and no such thing as going off-topic, but it's populated by intelligent, thoughtful, funny adults (and some older teens) who talk about everything ranging from major, fact-based debates about all the hot politic, religious, social topics, to the latest movies, to personal issues, and so on and so forth. There's lots for everyone. And the really, really nice thing is that the debates are all very focused on facts, on proving your point, on providing links with information to back yourself up. I see it as a mostly liberal board, although that may be because I'm a conservative, but the liberal POV definitely seems to me to be more outspoken than conservative.

The forum is part of Orson Scott Card's site (have you heard of him? He's a big sci-fic author) and it's split into two; one section is stuff that has to do with OSC, the other section is the random section that I've been describing.

Anyway, enough with the intro, let me provide a link:

OSC is also a slightly anti-gay mormon, but that's irrelevant except in the context of "Folk of the Fringe".

Well, there is a higher percentage of Mormons on the board than you'd find elsewhere, but they're definitely outweighed by the liberals. It often amazes me how non-reflective the board is of OSC's own beliefs. Rants are always popping up about his latest articles, in fact. :) The forum is moderated, but only to stop real spammers, or major, long-time trolls. I come to LJ and the SugarQuill and the Leaky Cauldron for HP-related stuff, and I go to hatrack for everything else - though I'm actually mostly a lurker there.

I'm not anti-mormon, actually (though I am anti-homophobia), but I thought that sharing the tiny tidbit of information was more interesting than saying "I've read all of his Ender books, some of his Earthborn books, and a few of his random novels".
