So, I decided to play around with uploading themes for firefox...

Something to change when I'm bored, right? I did try to change my desktop settings to be more like my old ones, but apparently you can't change the colors to whatever you like if you're using the Windows XP style. But I don't *like* the classic shapes! Help? Am I mistaken? Don't tell me to ditch Windows, that isn't happening unless I have the money to get my own computer.

I certainly can change my colour scheme... could you elaborate on what you mean by being unable to change the colours?

Okay. I go to the control panel, and display. I go to appearance, and advanced. All the images shown are of Windows Classic (not XP) and when I try to change the colors there's a note saying "if you choose a theme other than windows classic, it will override the following settings, except in some older programs".

Yes, but they only have three options. *I* want to be able to edit my *own* colors - I don't want to pick from one of their prepared color schemes.

That's why I clicked on advanced in the first place, because color scheme wasn't what I wanted.

I see what you mean. The problem with Windows XP is that the skin is made using graphics, hence limiting the colour schemes to three. Unfortunately, the best alternative I can find is for you to download a ready-made skin off the Web.

But! I suppose it's possible I can ask somebody to make a skin with my specifications?

Well it's like the difference between having the background on your journal just be a plain colour (so using a hex code) and an image. Windows Classic is like having the plain colour, so you can have anything you want, but XP is like using the image so it has to be pre-existing.

Oh. So, basically, when they designed XP they were stupid? Because that's what I'm hearing. I want to have my colors back! *whines*

Anyway, does that mean I can get somebody to design a skin for me that's XP except for the colors? And download it?

You probably could, but I couldn't tell you where to go unfortunately - I abhor the XP style and change to Classic the second I get a computer with it.
