It turns out that there's six different types of diabetes.

Four forms of diabetes insipidus and two major types of diabetes mellitus.

Diabetes insipidus and diabetes mellitus are unrelated. Basically, the names refer to "insipid" and "sweet" pee, I think. The former has to do with the inability of the kidneys to regulate water properly, and can lead to dehydration, the latter has to do with the inability of the body to regulate sugar properly.

Actually, there are at least three kinds of diabetes mellitus: Type 1, Type 2, and gestational diabetes. Then there is "prediabetic", "insulin resistance," "impaired glucose tolerance" and something called "Type one and a half" which seems to be something that doctors fall back on when they don't know which type a person is. I've been told by some endocrinologists that there is actually no such thing as type one and a half, but some people are told that's what they have.
