It says something when I was initially wondering which news story...

Still, look at it this way. He's just committed treason in plain sight by declaring war without Congressional authorization.

It remains to be seen if anyone in DC has the balls to call him on it. Although it does answer the question whether the military will obey illegal orders or not.

That's one of those legal grey areas... he certainly committed an act of war, which can sometimes be considered an declaration. Either is an act of treason without Congressional Authority, and also a war crime.

But Trump seems to have decided fuck it, he's just going to commit crimes now.

Venezuela has the world's largest proven oil reserves, five to eight times larger than the US (depending on how you measure).
Saudi Arabia would be next, but has already been funneling money to the Trump family, so no benefit from invading.
Iran or Canada after that (depending on how you measure proven reserves)
And the US already took over Iraq, although it's debatable if the profits are greater than the lifetime disability payments to the US forces injured in the process.

Also Guyana. The territory around the Essequibo_River (and the river itself) have been in dispute between Venezuela and Guyana. Lots of oil and gas resources - this is a way in there too.

This is so fucked up, and a giant middle finger to pretty much all his enemies at once: US citizens, Congress, Venezuela, the UN, NATO (when he goes after Greenland). And just in case there was any doubt, also Ukraine. This is outright conquest and theft and kidnapping and subjugation of people he doesn't like, and it's only the beginning, and... ugh.
