conulyI believe the theme of this book is "the road to hell" with a side order of "best laid plans". the plans of the Griffin Bunker's founder were not laid very well. His own paranoia did him in, plus, he sounds like a thoroughly unlikeable person. His ultimate fate was grisly, but you can't say he didn't deserve it.
Come to think of it, Mars' plan to rescue Earth!Bees wasn't very well-thought-out either. Well, that's the good intentions. A little more time, or, indeed, any time in reconnaissance would've gone a long way.
