One interesting and possibly encouraging thought, from cattitude: because all the generals and admirals were in the same place for a couple of days, they may have taken the opportunity for some off-the-record networking and planning, conversations that wouldn't be over email, any sort of text app, or a possibly-recorded telephone line. Even if they didn't have say anything that would be a problem if overheard, casual conversations about sports or someone's grandchildren can build trust. That may not matter, but I doubt Trump or Hegseth thought of that when they set this up.
