One simple rule is that with induction, you’re playing the numbers game, however technically. For example, “I’ve seen the sun rise every morning of my lifetime, ergo it will likely rise tomorrow morning.” With deduction, you’re drawing a definite conclusion from stated premises. For example, “My car’s differential fell out. My car is rear-wheel drive. Rear-wheel drive vehicles need differentials to move. Therefore, my car can’t move.” This has been Colin’s Unsolicited Logic LessonTM, a public service for which I only receive minor monetary compensation. Hey, I gotta eat.
