This was my thought, just don't add vinegar and bleach simultaneously. Also, if the bleach is left there, it may start to degrade the rubber.

Good point -- rubbing alcohol maybe? But the vinegar should work on its own.

Yeah, rubbing alcohol would work, too, but I agree, a good vinegar soak should be sufficient!
