A proposed rule was made to look like red tape reform, but it’s a power grab. It would let Trump fire thousands of key career civil servants with ease (think Schedule F 2.0).

Date: 2025-05-03 12:15 pm (UTC)"These positions will remain career jobs filled on a nonpartisan basis. Yet they will be at-will positions excepted from adverse action procedures or appeals. This will allow agencies to quickly remove employees from critical positions who engage in misconduct, perform poorly, or undermine the democratic process by intentionally subverting Presidential directives."
So there's still lip-service to the idea that you can get this job regardless of your party affiliation. But you will lose it if you try to follow the law as written by Congress and as interpreted by the courts; your job is to obey Presidential directives regardless of their basis in or compatibility with the law.
And of course, Democrats have a well-known reputation for following the law as written by Congress and as interpreted by the courts, even when the President disagrees, so it'll save us all a lot of time and trouble if we just don't hire them in the first place.
