Between being sick last week and working the election....

Anyway, the less said about the election, the better. Half the people I was with this year had never worked an election before, and they all were openly (when no voters were around) anti-Trump. Some man came in to vote and told us that the last time he worked an election was 2016 and his coworkers sobbed at the end of the day.

There was no crying, but I spent a lot of time those last few hours telling one of the other workers to stop looking at the results, that the best thing was to just put the phone away until sunrise. She probably cried this morning, and so did the others. This all fucking sucks. America Defeats America

(I'm feeling slightly less murderously angry, btw. Still angry, but on a normal level.)

Edit: OMG, the audiodrama newsletter I just opened up starts off with a link to a crisis hotline. I don't think they've always done that!

My workplace in a blueberry-blue staate also sent around mental health resources. I was pleased, if mordantly, by that.

You can tell how long it's been since I worked a presidential election: we weren't allowed to check the internet until the polls closed. And THEN we found out that Obama won (again) and also that the poll-watching lawyers were not MAGA but just in case of actual shenanigans. 2012, and a lifetime ago.

Now? So very angry.

About the Korean woman leaving men behind I was reminded of a remark made about feminist movements way back in time:

"Feminism will have woman leave their husbands, practice witchcraft and become lesbians."

To which I reply, "Where do I sign up?"

My wife worked the new registration computer for the election, and they were overwhelmingly (R). One woman came in and said she wanted to register for Trump's party, didn't say Republican or Democratic, and as you know you can't prompt. Only 300 or so votes as it's a very small village of 800ish.

Wait, jaywalking is now legal in NYC? Not that it ever stopped me...but it's good to know. (I've been jaywalking along with other NY'ers for over 20 years now.)

Of course, cops are no more likely to know the law than the rest of us, so you can expect it to take at least a few years before bullshit tickets stop being handed out. (On this, I don't really blame the individual police officers. They still do absolutely have quotas, and nobody is going around instructing them on all the fine details of the traffic code.)

I've never had any issues with being stopped for jaywalking, but I'm also a big white lady, and I rarely do it.
