Or, if not yet "nearing completion" are at least showing signs of what they'll look like when done. Which means we no longer have to hear about the "exciting new changes". Exciting my ass! There's not a single roller coaster, wild bear, or even ferris wheel in the place!

Now, though, the official website says this:

"The Staten Island Ferry Terminal is about to be transformed from a drab, dirty waiting area to a bright, clean transportation gateway.

Well, it was a drab, dirty waiting area. But I'm not sure how renovations make it magically cleaner. I think it's still going to be drab and dirty.

The new terminal will feature large windows allowing for views of the harbor and high ceilings to provide a well lit, open environment.

Yay! I've seen their ideas, though. No benches. The people are mad.

There will be a wide range of shops and restaurants, and an outdoor plaza.

All, no doubt, overpriced. Except the plaza - which somehow will be sure not to have benches.

The transportation connections for ferry, bus, train, and car will be vastly improved.

So, they'll let cars on the boat again? Urg. And the only way they can improve the train situation involves FIXING THE DAMN 1/9 STATION (which is a bona fide firetrap, as well as not letting half the train enter) and connecting it with the n/r and 4/5. Which would be great. But it's not happening. They keep talking about fixing it, but they never do, because it's staten island.

Well, that's on the other side, anyway. This is talking about the St. George terminal. My rant is about whitehall.

The new terminal is expected to be completed in 2005 with dramatically improved conditions for commuters and visitors.

Didn't they JUST SAY this?

One of the most noticeable changes in the terminal waiting room will be the removal of the harbor side brick wall, which will be replaced with a 40-foot tall glass wall. The Art Commission said, "People who are waiting for a ferry boat will be able to look out and see it coming. It will turn the terminal into a true oasis and a fitting gateway for Staten Island."

Um, yay? Do I care?

When completed in 2005, the renovations will establish a truly modern transportation hub for over 65000 daily riders. Passengers at St. George will enjoy enhanced dining options, and a new outdoor promenade will ease existing pedestrian access between Bay Street and the terminal.<

And now they're repeating themselves again.

A bit more snide than I ought to be, but ask me if I expect anything will turn out as wonderful as predicted. Considering that what they're renovating is the MAKESHIFT that they put up after the fire (at least ten years ago), I'm not too impressed.
