Now what!?

There's this weird little gap/crawlspace that goes from the second floor kitchen to the attic next to the chimney. We really ought to close up the hole in the wall, but it's surprisingly difficult to get to and since the only animal who's ever been interested in it is Callie we haven't wanted to bother. Callie treats it like her own personal staircase.

Well, yesterday, after living here I don't even know how many years, another cat got in there... and got stuck. After counting all the cats I determined that this was Sweetheart/Reeses, Eva's cat. She got her head high enough for me to almost grab her, then apparently decided she didn't want to come the rest of the way up (probably because I was waiting to grab her) and settled down to mrowp piteously every time I walked through the attic, the kitchen, or the bathroom.

I've spent a good portion of the day trying to figure out how to get to her. I actually know how to do it, the easiest way is through the bathroom linen closet. We'd rather do it any other way if we can help it. So I've spent a good portion of the day trying to figure out any other way. Got a few awkward photos of her too to confirm she's still there.

And now I'm ready to try Yet Another Attempt after taking a nap break and - she's not there. I have no idea where she is, but I know where she isn't and she isn't where she was.

Well, huh. Where could she be? If she's not there, cutting a careful hole in that precise location will avail us approximately bupkis. I'll want to cut a hole somewhere else if she's still stuck. Or if she's not stuck I don't want to cut any holes.

Edit: Confirmed she's out. This is almost more annoying than before. If she could get out the entire time, why did I spent half the day trying to rescue her!?

Could she have gotten out entirely and be off in another room having a nice nap in a sunbeam? She is a cat, and I have known cats to pretend they can't escape a situation and then do so promptly whenever it's convenient for them.

If not...happy hunting! I hope it goes well.

because she is a cat, and cats are jerks.

Glad she’s okay. Cats. Always with the drama. 🤨

I can't picture what the area looks like. But if you could almost reach her (assuming you were above where she was), maybe an alternate approach would be to hang down a towel or something like that for her to climb up on? If it happens again. If she's smart, she'll either have learned not to go in there again, or how to get out the same way she did this time.

It was inevitable she would come out eventually. Like the old saying goes, 'Have you ever seen a cat skeleton up a tree?'

LOL!

Because cats? Glad she's safe but wow that must be aggravating.

One nice thing about apartment living is that the worst it ever is, is someone settles down for a nap in a closet and we close the door.

We're on the 5th floor. We do have a terrace, but only one of our cats has ever tried to get out there. It may make a difference that the three (out of a current four) youngest were all rescued from Prospect Park. They are devoted to the Great Indoors now.

You and this cat are reminding me of this news story from this week. That cat was fine.
