Here come real stars to fill the upper skies,
And here on earth come emulating flies,
That though they never equal stars in size,
(And they were never really stars at heart)
Achieve at times a very star-like start.
Only, of course, they can't sustain the part.

we don't have fireflies on this Coast, so I've never seen them IRL - but I love the imagery whenever I'm reminded of them by stuff like this poem

Oh, that's so unfortunate! One of my very earliest memories is of catching fireflies and thinking to myself about how some people called them fireflies and other people called them lightning bugs. I couldn't have been older than five at the time.
