Most of the time, what someone thinks of as the medieval period is really close to, if not into, the early modern period. They tend to think 1400-1700 CE, not 400-1500 CE. Probably because there's a lot of long boring stretches in the later, and all the exciting politics and war comes in the former, at least according to popular opinion.

Late Antiquity > 1492 are more chocked with fascinating characters, events and information than Walnut-Raisin bread's got walnuts and raisins. The I study those eras the more fascinating and essential information is revealed. This is even more so if one looks at those eras globally and don't stick to, just, o u no, England (though that's fascinating and revealing as well).
