I don't remember it being this bad other years - usually you can still get a bag or two of bulk candy after the holiday, but that's for sure not happening this year! Either supplies are more limited than I'd realized, or everybody decided to really stock up on essentials.

The local Walgreens and Safeway were pretty thin even ten days ago. Either they've decided they don't want to run the post-Halloween discount sale, or the supply was limited. I was in Walgreens last week and the Halloween aisle was 2/3 Christmas already, and in the remaining 1/3 about half the space was liquor. They did have plenty of candy corn.

Same here-- I went to last-minute buy candy today, and had to settle for a bag of hershey's kisses and some york peppermint patties (neither holiday packaging, just the 'party' bags.

At my store it seemed like more people were buying candy and buying more of it. Like they were making up for last year when there wasn't going to be trick or treating so they bought so little.

Here there was plenty, but the selection from the beginning was fairly small compared to past years. The kids around here are going to end up with a lot of little bags of M&Ms and a quite small variety of candy bars.

A Russian "Married with Children?" Yeah, I can definitely see that working!

I noticed the same candy shortage yesterday here in Central Illinois. Two big grocery stores had only a few varieties of candy left, and not in vast quantities either.

I noticed that my local source was discounting the week previous. I think they'd prefer to sellout early at a buck-a-bag discount, rather than half-pricing everything the following week.

wal-mart still had a lot on wed. but workers where putting it on pallets to take in the back & were bringing out christmas stuff.

the stores don't seem interested in putting holiday candy on clearance any more. they'd rather dump it and write it off as a loss than get 50% (or less) of what they normally sell it for.
