IRL, outside of my immediate family I have, hands down, the worst eyeglass prescription out of anybody I know*. Indeed, the kids aren't nearly as bad as I was at their age, and I don't precisely know what Jenn's prescription is - it could be better than mine, for all I know.

Online, not so much. I know several people who have a much stronger prescription than I do.

Hypothesis: Nearsightedness causes computers.

* Excluding ancillary factors like cataracts.

When I was 14 we discovered that I had 20/200 vision in my left eye. The doctor exclaimed, "Well, no wonder she reads so much! She can't see anything else!"

So it indeed may be that nearsightedness causes computers. (grin)

three years ago my optometrist told me "numbers no longer apply to you" when I asked what my vision ratio was. Without glasses I am no longer on the charts (4 years ago I was 20/800).

I've gotten that answer too! When pressed, my optometrist told me "5/400."

I don't know what that number is for me. All I know is the numbers on my last prescription for specs. Or would know, at least, if I was able to read the handwriting on that. I think -11.(mumble) for the right eye, but I can't see the left eye value.

I don't think those numbers apply beyond a certain point, I have no clue what mine is either (-13.25 in my good eye, -14.5 in my bad).

as someone who is nearsighted, i'm now worried about this happening.

Coming back to this while clearing old notification emails. I'm not conuly, but I know (and in fact have had laser retinal treatment in both eyes wben I was about 15, I think). Last time I had my retinas checked was about 6 months ago. No signs of new weak spots.
