Date: 2020-12-03 01:37 pm (UTC)About creepy story...
Having any TV station, let a lone a public TV station, attempt to save money by doing local production isn't practical. Local productions cost money - even one as cheaply put together as the one mentioned in the story.
That said, having the old tapes on 'Betamax' is accurate. When Betamax failed in the consumer market Sony supped it up and sold it as a broadcast format. However, it would be more likely the station used the cheaper and more common 3/4" cassette format known as Umatic.
Roof leaking at a TV station? Very very real!
Lastly... archive? We wish!

Date: 2020-12-03 03:59 pm (UTC)This wasn’t the same thing as a tv station, obviously, but about twenty-five years back I worked for a few months for an electronic press-clipping service – we taped various news shows every night for review, and part of the job every night was to pull the tapes of news shows that were now more than six (? I forget exactly how long we kept them) months old, and wipe them for reuse with a big electromagnet.
