I really love the Rivers of London series. It's one I buy each volume immediately upon it becoming available!

And I find Aaronovitch incredibly funny -- not great with all female characters, alas, but just generally so underhandedly humorous that I enjoy the books (plus, I adore Peter as a protagonist).

I love Rivers of London. Imagine, a magic apprentice with a scientific "does it always do that?" bent! A police officer protagonist who thinks the rule of law is a good idea. A series where people who stumble across magic don't get reconned into forgetting it! I could go on.

Also, if anyone's looking for some first class RoL fic, I can recommend these: https://archiveofourown.org/users/lightgetsin/pseuds/lightgetsin/works?fandom_id=301813

I love that series SO MUCH. I haven't managed to get hold of the latest one- I'm actually not sure it's out yet; it's been pushed back several times. But.. there is a new series set in the same universe. I read the first one and it's okay, but didn't grab me like the Rivers series. I just love the narrator of that series so very much!

They're great fun!
Somewhat similar, if you haven't found them already, are Paul Cornell's Shadow Police novels. Possibly slightly darker, same vivid London setting.

I just resumed reading it, bought a copy of Foxglove Summer a few days ago. My wife has, I think, all of the books - but after getting the first few - before FS - on Kindle, she got them all on audiobook and I don't do those. So I bought it from the Apple book store and broke the DRM. I didn't have to, it's just a general principle thing to make it consistent with my library.
