Oh, this was marvelous! I laughed out loud and demanded that my Best Beloved listen, because he's long had a saying about the first of May being the day that hedgerow fucking begins. I'd never heard anyone actually say anything even close to that until tonight. So thank you!

While it is chilly now, May 1 was really nice here and my husband decided to take all his laptop and work outside. When I went to chat with him, he was happily "first of May, outdoor hacking starts today." Close, and less likely to bother the neighbors.

An average adult American alligator might be about six feet long, so one way to visualize the "social distance" is to stay one alligator's length away from other people. I suggested that everybody ought to get an inflatable plastic alligator (like a pool float) and carry them around to make sure they get the distance right.

Back when I worked at the cemetery, the weekend of May 1st was usually when we started finding underwear left behind.

Also, even though I have okay grasp of Norwegian sign language, I didn't understand much of the ASL. Huh.

They're at least part of the same language family, but a few hundred years of divergent evolution will do that.

Both derives from the French SL if I don't remember wrong. So closer than Swedish.
