No shock there. It's scary outside. You're stuck inside either alone or TRAPPED WITH YOUR FAMILY. Either you're suddenly unemployed or you have to work from home (joy). Your Netflix and chill has entirely too much Netflix and too little chill... and to add insult to injury, you're probably watching kid's shows because your kids are there with you.

Why wouldn't you load up on the snacks now?

Plus, kale goes bad. Oreos don't.

Same as nearly every chocolate company - child slave labor which they keep claiming they're working on but never are. Admittedly it's endemic in the whole rotten system of goods we have, everything, but it's easier for me to live without certain brands of chocolate than to live without a phone or tomatoes.

I tend to harangue people about it if given half a chance, and I'm trying not to do that.

It's impossible to source everything 100% ethically. This is the personal hill I've chosen to die on, but slavery and coercive labor is in every part of our supply chain, and even where it's not that doesn't mean labor practices are actually good. We've all got to pick and choose where we put forth the extra effort. It's okay to say "no" on this front because you're putting your energies into a "yes" somewhere else - even if that yes is just getting through your day during a shitty time in everybody's life, ie, now.

Do you keep/can you share a list of ethical chocolate makers? Perhaps I should Google it. Any personal favorites, though?

In the interests of preserving my sanity, I typically look for certification that they're both a. fair trade and b. shade grown (environmental reasons) and don't ask too many probing questions.
