Not sick and not wanting to encourage others to spread it. That's the good of the realm right?

My campus is /abandoned/ but I'm still living here (work a couple hours a week, free housing, it's good). So I've taken over the area's Pokemon Go gyms.

I think there's a good chance I've been exposed, so now that I can stay home w/o worrying about being fired/losing health coverage I'm going on full lockdown for 14 days. :|

"The Coronavirus is a Disaster for Feminism" is a bullshit clickbait title: feminism is not what's hurting here, as the article itself explains (though not in those words), and in fact intersectional feminism (extra highlight to disability issues, wage/wealth issues, and racism esp wrt xenophobia) could have made so much of this not a problem in the first place!

It's a disaster for gender roles. What's the one way (besides covering one's mouth/washing hands/isolation) to slow down or prevent transmission of corornavirus? Cleaning/doing laundry! Guess who did most of that before this hit and has to do much more of it every day from now until possibly the actual end of time.

Guess what has to happen if you can't eat out? Preparing meals at home! Guess who does the majority of that in many households, too. Both of which re-enforces gender-specific stereotypes in the home and outside of it as males continue to act like household tasks and duties are not within their realm.

None of these issues might have been mentioned in the article, but yeah, I'm exhausted, and if not they should have been.

No, that's exactly what the article is about: how coronavirus is worsening the inequities that make feminism necessary.

I mean I WISH all women were feminists, but that still wouldn't mean coronavirus is doing any damage to the concepts feminism comprises, no matter how much coronavirus is hurting people in gendered ways

feminism also isn't taking a PR hit; the opposite, if anything, because people who have been ignoring certain realities are having more difficulty doing that now

Point taken. The title itself is yet another disaster, I realize now.

What's needed during a super-contagious viral outbreak (traditionally/stereotypically that's gendered housework, mostly) is only re-enforcing gender stereotypes and deepening existing inequalities - which the article does seem to cover (read every word, though not until much later) which only highlights the need for feminism as it stands and more feminism until it's no longer needed (ETA on that, though: never).

Stuff (and by "stuff" I mean natural disasters, viral outbreaks, economic meltdowns, the apocalypse and so on) like this, it hit me today, always makes *all* existing inequalities that much worse (yes, you can pick your poison on that).

Not sick, but govt has said from today that over-70's and vulnerable people should self-isolate as much as possible. I have chronic fatigue so that means me. Had a feeling this was on the cards so yesterday went out and Bought Things (including chocolate, phew).

Libraries closed. :(

I'm working at a pharma manufacturer, so I'm currently an Essential Worker. But I take public transit to work, and even with the severe reduction in service, I am too close to too many people during my commute.

I feel like a plague rat, and I'm almost certainly going to come down with COVID.

The Wife and I are still working, me driving buses, she caring for kids.

Yeah, they closed the libraries, but day care, the most intense snot, slobber, and smear petri dish of mircrobial critter exchange known to mankind, is still open, 'cause health care workers need it.

rant on:

I'm sorry, but Big F that. You can't convince any thinking person that it's okay to expose the children of health care professionals to any and all manner of Stuff Going Around and allow those children to cuddle right back up to Mommy and Daddy every freakin' night.
