I worry about chaos and conspiracy theories if he dies, but I also know that cults of personality are notoriously difficult to transfer, especially if the fervent loyalty is to a leader instead of an infrastructure or a line of succession.

While yes, he is a roach, remember that one negative COVID test does not mean that you don't have the infection. You have to take two tests about a week apart to truly be clear. It means that if he is infected, he hasn't yet built up enough antibodies right now to be measurable.

I saw an article about robotics engineers who are deliberately building robot cockroaches i e  modeling that ability to flatten and slither into, for example, earthquake-flattened buildings to look for survivors.  Even they made no attempt to deny revulsion! - but what works is good, yes?

I was gonna say "Oh no, maybe I'm rubbing off on you" as we both know I have a LOT to say on cockroaches, but then I saw "I should not make that comparison. I actually quite admire roaches. They're really a remarkable evolutionary success story" - and crisis averted.

I'd add "and cockroaches are actually nice. Filthy, can't keep 'em around, but nice. They're cooperative, non-violent, and if they weren't so dirty I'd even think they were kind of cute".
