Here is some more good advice: If you're going to wear a mask to protect yourself from respiratory illness, you should cover your nose and not just your mouth. The jury may be out on the effectiveness of masks, but I think we can all agree that if you're not going to use them properly you may as well just take them off entirely. (I doubt that it protects others either. You just look silly this way.)

Also: disposable paper masks do more to protect other people from your germs than they do to protect you from other people's germs...

Disposable paper masks are best applied to the person who is contagious...

Yeah, I've seen at least two people with paper masks pulled down below their noses, and I'm like "that will help no one, so why?!"

Yup. Spotted my first masked grocery shopper the other day.

They were wearing a paper surgical mask over their chin, so they could chat with someone more easily.

Best advice I've heard remarks that cheap masks do best to preventing wearers from getting infected by preventing them from touching their mouth and nose without scrubbing first.

OMG, it drives me nuts when people do that. And when they don't form the little metal over their nose, so there are big openings on either side.
