All trees need names. The grand old oak that unfortunately fell in my yard a few years back was Fred. I am lucky that from the remnants of Fred's trunk is growing a single branch. I refuse to let my Dad cut it down.

I was just reading about a stump in I think New Zealand which has no leaves and by rights is dead dead dead, but it's so intertwined with the rest of the local trees that it isn't, because they all share energy and water back and forth.
