We have a skylight right over our bed, and I don't recommend it, unless they've come up with some high-tech soundproofing options these days. It's great for waking up with the sun, but good god, when it rains it's like 100 college drumlines practicing overhead. Not awesome when it rains at 3:00 AM.

We installed those Philips strip LED lights by the wall. When it hits a certain time, it's set to brighten in our faces and more or less make continued sleep more miserable once awoken. The only problem with it is that we're renters so I can't give it a proper installation without it being destructive on the room since I'd install anchors and whatnot to stick it to the wall.

Otherwise, skylights are awesome!
