Are there really people who'd rather spend lots of money to simulate barefootedness than to just go barefoot?

Not counting, of course, those who really can't be unshod (and have lots of money).

Wouldn't bodily fluids have to be... um... fluid? Couldn't you get sick from touching something with your hands?

heh, i don't even like touching stuff with my hands. i'd be more concerned with feet since you're never too sure if you have an open cut or other wounds on your feet so something can get up in there and fester. I know for me, I can have a cut on my foot for weeks before I even notice it. Guess my nerves aren't that sensitive down there.
