Which hurt an awful lot. You can all wince now.

Today I got a new tetanus shot. I hate getting shots, but it'd been at least a decade, so... yeah. And I got there at 5:15. They asked me to wait a little, I asked "how long is a little?" and they said I'd for sure be out there in time to pick up the kid at daycare at 6:15. They finally let me go at 6:06. I got there, limping, at 6:16, but at least I wasn't the very last one. (But the alternative was to go waaaaay out for this shot, and this pharmacist was great at giving shots, so there is that.)

My foot still hurts, but only when I walk on it (and mostly only when wearing shoes, because the cut is right in the middle of the arch), so I'm not worried about that. Unfortunately, I've been walking funny when going long distances and now my entire leg is sore :( Well, I should be better by Monday or Tuesday.

In other, more cheerful news, today I picked up two pairs of squirrel-pattern doggie jammies, one in white and one in dark brown. "These will make our doggies even cuter!", I thought, and they sure do.

ARGH. Foot injuries are annoying. My big trick has always been breaking a toe, which takes weeks to heal and makes me limp, thus making my legs sore, thus... on and on ad infinitum.

Grab a cane!

I remember stepping on a toothpick as a teen. Part of it broke off in my heel. (And then I had to limp to the telephone almost immediately after. Ow ow ow.)

The rest of the toothpick came out after a day or two. Amazingly, no infection despite zero medical treatment. (ha ha insurance when I was a teen? it is to laugh.)

Owwwww. I've stepped on nails (twice, because I'm an idiot) but screws must be worse. :shudder:

OW!! Although this reminds me I have a weird . . . thing . . . that happens with my foot after my ridiculously long commute every morning that I need to get looked at now that I have insurance again, so thanks for that. Glad they got you out on time, too! That's a near miracle considering what waiting rooms are like around here.

Some while ago, my cat sank a claw into the ball of my left thumb. It didn't bleed, but it hurt. The next morning, my elbow and shoulder hurt. There weren't red streaks from the puncture wound, but I did call my nurse practitioner, who asked when I'd last had a tetanus shot. I allowed as how it had probably been twenty or thirty years.

"I have an appointment at 10:30," she said, brightly.

"There's no way I can make it to Robbinsdale in an hour, and my boss hates me, I can't take off work. It's only two days until Saturday, how about then?"

"I could do 1:30," she said, still quite brightly.

"You don't understand, my boss really, really hates me. I cannot ask her for time off. I"ll see you Saturday. Do you have an opening for Saturday?"

"I have an opening for 1:30 today."

"Look, what is the worst that can happen if I wait until Saturday?"

In her extremely chipper voice, she said, "Oh, you know, death."

I was there at 1:30. The shot hurt like a bitch for three days, but I did not, in fact, die of lock jaw.

I hope you feel better soon!

This does remind me of being a dumb preteen and jumping on my bed. I jumped too close to the edge, missed the bed on the way down, and slammed the heel and part of my arch into the metal corner of my bed frame. It was not a pleasant injury, to say the least (the blood!). But I had gotten a tetanus shot the year prior so it healed with no problem.

Owie! You dfinitely have my sympathies. My last somewhat emergency tetanus shot was for slicing my finger open digging in to a bag of cooking equipment looking for something, not realizing there was a slicer in there, and doing about a 1" slice along a finger tip. Fortunately it was long and shallow, still I bled like a proverbial sliced pig. Didn't require stitches, pressure was able to get it to seal.

Now here's the question: did your shot include Whooping Cough/Pertussis? Mine did not, I'm still confused as to why, and a few years later I got a second shot just to make sure I had the P covered. I always try to make sure when I get a tetanus shot/booster to get the full DTAP. And since you have a school-age child, VERY important!

Yeah, if you thought the current pain was bad, tetanus is definitely worse.

Wait, your dogs can be even cuter?!?!????

Did that, within the last year or so. Not fun (and this was on top of an injury to that foot from a previous year and a screw or nail I stepped on with the same foot the same year pre-injury- I'd forgotten about that until reading this - it'd popped out of the back of an armchair and I'd stepped on it , not knowing, just right).

Feel your pain. Pulled my own out, too (circa 2014, a screw that fell out of an armchair behind it onto the floor, and my lucky foot hitting it just right). I had no tetanus shot for that, either (that came with the next foot injury, and was likely routine, but I wasn't leaving without one). Hope it feels all better soon.

Ouch! All I could think of as I read this was how I hate getting shots. Don't mind giving them though.
