Why do bad things happen to good people?
Jul. 5th, 2018 12:24 amThese chips are NOT onion garlic. They're plain. They taste like potatoes. Mistakes like that could never happen in a fundamentally just universe.

How dare you try to change their culture? Speak English!" No personal insight whatsoever, and I was sorely tempted to create an account just so I could link the lot of them to this xkcd. Date: 2018-07-01 10:29 pm (UTC)My Big Trauma is that I was targeted by a producer of child pornographer about ten years ago. He and I were briefly engaged, then after we broke up, he managed to convince me that I owed him a place in my life because he was a Nice Guy and I had screwed him over and he was my responsibility. (Long story, but slick predator was slick.) He raped me and used my apartment as a studio and trading post while I was at work (I was a workaholic back then and after 100+ hour weeks was barely capable of noticing whether the apartment was on fire.) The FBI approached me about him. He's now in prison for a minimum of 17 years or so.
And the thing is, people expect me to advocate for a harder sentence and harsher repercussions for the guy that cost me my health, my ease of sleep, my ability to trust, threatened my kid. And--- no. I don't want that. He was a child in so many terrifying ways, never given the chance to grown up or grow healthy by his truly monstrous mother. I don't want him to have nothing to lose and be getting out of prison at the same time my theoretical grandchildren age into his preferred demographic. I want him healthy and I want him far away from me.
And it makes my heart hurt when people say I'm not surviving rape right, that I have to let rage rule my life for it to be "real," or how I'm oppressing other survivors by not wanting to burn everyone to the ground.
I dunno, mang. But this is an important issue to me. Thanks.
