I don't know (and don't much care) who Janet Daley is, but I notice one of the very first things she cited as being threatened by was people choosing not to have kids, and that shitty attitude still exists today, whether someone's gay or straight.
I'm appalled that anyone still believes that awful racist crap about Chinese people supposedly eating cats and dogs. what the hell?

It's true that many cultures, not just in Asia, consider dogs to be food. (For example, it was a common enough meal in Ireland a while back, which is how Cúchulainn died. He was under a geas not to eat dog meat offered to him by a woman, but another one not to refuse a meal offered to him. And we know the Gauls ate dog meat regularly.) China is a big and diverse country, but yes, dog meat has been eaten there even in this century. My understanding is that where the idea of dogs and cats as pets increases, their use as food tends to decrease - same as how most Americans no longer consider rabbit to be food, because they're a pet animal. Really, there's no difference between eating dogs and eating pigs. Meat is meat. Pigs are smarter than dogs anyway.

Every time I hear this I interpret it as "the speaker wishes they didn't have kids, and resent the fact that other people aren't as miserable as they are".
