Great links as always, thanks.

Date: 2018-03-04 03:08 am (UTC)The last article I read profiled a hospital in West Virginia. The baby was white, as are 95% of the people in the state. West Virginians also have the highest rate of deaths from drug overdose in the country, two and a half times higher than the national average.

I will sum up. Poor white farmers get a hell of a lot more sympathy than black people from the inner city, and the majority of these articles focus on them, with a significant minority focusing on whites (poor or struggling) from the suburbs.
On the one hand, this is why the response has been "let's help those people!" rather than "lock 'em all up!", but it's shitty. And that's the point of the article.
And I don't think funding for addiction medicine is going to improve anywhere under the current administration, no matter how many articles get written.
Things could get a hell of a lot worse.

Date: 2018-03-04 07:33 am (UTC)It's not the dark itself, actually, it's when he hears noises or gets touched while in the dark. Then he freaks. But if he's just snuggled up and nothing disturbs him, he's fine.
Suffice to say, he was disturbed during our blackout.
