Wow, that window for visual learning of languages is tiny!

The earlier you can get stuff into kids' brains, the more they pick up. (My kid is a 2nd generation "Teach your baby to read" reader (iahp.org). Woooooorks. Dunno about the math cards, but kid sure has more aptitude for it than I did, for what that's worth.)

Probably a market for videos of people signing...

I have always wished I'd been exposed to languages when I was young. I can't speak anything. I took Spanish, French, and German, and I'm pathetic in all three. (I actually do better with Latin, but no one speaks it anymore.)

I've had that happen, and it's definitely an event of major suckage. In Firefox, you can try typing about:sessionrestore in the address line, but no guarantees. If you have a constant backup running, there's also some operating system-level trickery that you can do to try to get back your session contents, but I only know how to do that on a Mac, and it's not something that I've had to do in a long time.

I was exposed to Spanish as a kid, but I can really only manage a few words and counting to 20 -- my parents used it when they wanted to hide what they were saying, and this somehow cemented into a "Secret Language." (I also believed cursive was another language for some time, like Arabic or something... this may be in part because of my mom's handwriting, BUT.)

I am a monoglot. It is sad.

I grew up when cursive was begun in the 2nd grade. By the time you were in the 6th grade, you were expected to be able to do all your exams in cursive.

Yes, I went to school in the dark ages. (grin)

I forget when the cursive thing came up -- I was reading pretty well by age 2, my mom reports -- so it could've been before normal school age. (For... reasons, including that schools were kind of crap in our area, I didn't go to school-school till I was 9. My cursive still sucks bigtime.)
