We're still doing Mackey's view of the Problem of Evil (points to earlier post). And here he starts.

CG = Mr. God-is-not-a-cause
P = My professor who shall remain unnamed
Me = Some girl

CG: Was Mackey an atheist?
P: Yes, I think so.
CG: So that explains why he doesn't accept the arguments for God! He's a very dangerous person! WTF?

Later:

CG: Was he in the Second World War?
P: *pause* Um, I don't know. *pausepausepause* How is this relevant?
CG: Well, I just thought that that was why he didn't believe in God. He saw this suffering, and got depressed, and forgot that God exists.
Me: Or maybe he just didn't believe in God. Maybe he thought it was a stupid idea, and he didn't like seeing people wasting time with pointless beliefs! This doesn't reflect my beliefs, I'm not an atheist, I think that's just as unprovable as any sort of theism, I was just sick of listening to his drivel
P: Okay. Well, *****, can you tell us Mackey's next argument about this?
CG: How should I know?
P: Well, you were supposed to have read it for today.
CG: I did read it! I'm supposed to remember it?
Me: *plays freecell to avoid screaming out loud*

I'm getting rather good at freecell. I wonder why.

My mom is currently going to the University of Georgia (we're smack in the middle of the Bible belt) and is constantly telling me stories about people bringing up God in philosophy discussions that don't have anything to do with God...or shouldn't, anyway. I find this really interesting, especially because you have brought it up a couple of times now, too. I wonder what that is?
