I'm not sure. On the one hand, I want to know about these things. On the other, I really really don't.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I've seen too many people go, "Oh, it's not really that bad!" so I feel compelled to give them something to think about.

What's really bad is that I first thought that the girl was 13 10 years ago. So when I found out she's 13 now, my original view of the scenario had to get pushed back to "Oh, it's really not that bad after all!" even though it was exactly as bad as I thought... it's just that the truth managed to be worse.

And....this case just happened to attract attention. People really aren't shocked or horrified at the rape of thirteen-year-old girls---at least if Roman Polanski is any indicator. Once rape gets normalized to the point where there's no real punishment or condemnation of it, then the restrictions against raping children---except boys----are going to be destroyed, too.

I haven't been paying much attention to national news lately. The first I heard of the Roman Polanski thing was when my entire friends page went asplodey about how fucked up the whole thing was. Plenty of people appear shocked and horrified over the rape of a 13 year old girl, at least the ones *I* know do. I'm gonna pretend they're all the people left in the world, my band of sensible people, we few, we happy few....
