What I don't understand is why. It's not sweet. It's not even clever. It's stupid. The best way to slow down a car (or motorcycle) is NOT to "hit the brakes" but to let up on the gas. That's what they say for ice storms too, that when you start to skid, you don't hit the brakes and go out of control, you move your foot from the gas pedal and wait for the car to slow down.

*blinks* This is one of the very *first* things we learned in Driver's Ed. Slamming on the brakes is usually a /stupid/ thing to do under most circumstances. Unless you are really, truly unable to swerve out of the way (Yes, it's better to swerve out of the way most of the time.), slamming on the brakes is a bad idea. We were told to try to veer out of the way and let it pass us if something was coming. If you experience a blow-out, slowly ease off the gas. Oh well. More reason for re-doing driver's ed every so often, neh?
