I took some pics of the boy cat with the nieces, as I posted. And they were really entranced with the idea of a cat who liked them instead of avoiding or merely tolerating them, and for my part I certainly wanted this cat to be easy to find Saturday to get him fixed, so I let them stay out all afternoon and play with him.

Of course, I expected them to try to smuggle him in, and wasn't disappointed. Caught that instantly. What I did NOT account for is my sister being such a damn soft touch! When you fob off difficult parenting choices like "no, you cannot keep the strange cat" onto the actual parents, you expect the parents to back you up!

When "just tonight" turns into "for good" as the girls openly admit they are planning on, and Tommy is here to stay, I want this on the record that I had very little part in this and it is all Jenn's fault. You guys are my witness.

Hm. I suppose you could have told Jenn that you think the girls cannot keep the strange cat, in case they decide to play the "Connie didn't say no! Don't be meaner than Connie!" card? And you could've told Jenn about your motivations for letting them play (& smuggle in) this cat so she doesn't think "Well Connie doesn't seem to mind either". Always safer to decide on a course of action together, rather than assuming the other will understand and back you up...
(Assuming, of course, you didn't explain it to Jenn. Maybe you did, I don't know after all!)

But other than that, sure, not your responsibility...

Okay, in that case, it's clearly not your fault.

To be fair, it's terribly hard to say no to an adorable kitten!

And tha twas my point. When a cat decides they like you, that's that.
Hard little critters to resit
